NDSU Club Calf Sale Entries Now Available

Greetings from the NDSU Judging Club! We are excited to get started in the planning for the 10th Annual NDSU Club Calf Sale held in conjuction with the North Star Classic, December 5th, 2009. Once again, some of the best prospects in the midwest will head to Valley City to find a home, and we hope your calves are apart of this year's high-quality set!

Let me introduce myself, I am Jamie May, a senior at NDSU majoring in advertising and agriculture communications, with a minor in animal science. I am from southeastern Minnesota and grew up showing club calves around the region. Long before I started at NDSU, I was analyzing the prospects at the NSC Club Calf Sale and even took a few home with me that went on to become great show steers! I am very excited to be this year’s sale manager and hope we can help you find good homes for your cattle!

Outlined below are a few changes we are making for the 2009 NSC Club Calf Sale. We want to make this a profitable sale for you, our consigners, while still getting great show prospects in the right hands. We feel these changes will help send the sale in the right direction.

• We are planning on limiting the number of head entered because we don’t have the resources to sell as many calves that have been entered in the past. We ideally want to sell 30-35 calves on sale day, so we will allow 45 to be entered—since we know that on average 10 calves are scratched. Thus, we will have a strict entry deadline of September 25, 2009 and will only allow the first 45 calves we receive to be consigned.
• The most exciting change is that we are working on a website for 2009. As an advertising student, I know the importance of good publicity. If you are reading this right now, you have found the blog that we will be working on until we finish the details for a website. As the sale comes closer, we will also have a digital copy of our sale book, and hopefully with help from you, pictures of our sale calves. With an entry deadline of October 1st, I know how hard it is to get a good picture for the sale catalog. However, with the addition of this website, you could email me pictures as you take them and we could post them on it. A picture can really sell a calf and bring more people in to our sale. I hope this is something we can work together on! If there is anything else you would like to see on the website, please let me know! I encourage you to direct potential buyers to this sight closer to the sale as well.
• Returning as this year’s auctioneer will be Seth Weishaar from Belle Fourche, SD.
